Militia members have been a bit of a mainstay at protests at the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests, both in Northern Nevada and Nationwide. Militias appeared quickly following the protests to “Protect Businesses from Looters”, including in Reno where the Northern Nevada Light Foot Militia arrived at a BLM vigil.

These groups have, over the last few months gained nationwide attention, culminating in a report from The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED). This report identifies militias as a possible “Flashpoint” for conflict leading up to and following the Presidential Election on November 3rd.

The report identifies three types of Militia, “‘mainstream militias,’ which are those that work to align with US law enforcement… street movements that are highly active in brawls… and highly devolved libertarian groups, which have a history of conflict and are skeptical of state forces…” All three of which are identified as operating within the Northern Nevada area by the report.
