Top 10 ridiculous cryptocurrencies ever made: Part 2
In this part two article we explore the top 4 craziest cryptocurrencies ever created.

#4 UNOBTANIUM (UNO)
What can you tell just by looking at the name? Looks like an element in the periodic table right? Technically it is, but a fictional material. If you remember the movie, Avatar, you would have noticed that it is an integral part of the plot. Unobtanium was a superconducting material at room temperature that was found on the moon, Pandora in the Avatar universe. In that story humans ‘mined’ Unobtanium from Pandora it was the key to human survival and the only way to deal with the energy crisis. So what’s it got to do with cryptocurrencies anyway?
Yes, they have done it! Years later, we have the Unobtanium cryptocurrency. It can be termed as one of the rarest cryptocurrency out there with only 250,000 coins to be ever made. So, what’s the use of it. It is something similar to a precious metal and valuable like the Unobtanium of the fictional world. Little would have James known that his creation would someday inspire the creation of a cryptocurrency. Quite an intriguing one but the next cryptocurrency we will discuss will be even more intriguing.
#3 USELESS ETHEREUM TOKEN (UET)
In at number 3, we have something that will just make you say, “What the hell!?”. Before we go to it, most of you are probably confused as to how to even use cryptocurrencies. How to mine them? It’s quite difficult to imagine how the whole process works out. There may be lot of questions about, what blockchain exactly is, what is Ethereum, the word you may keep hearing all around. The whole stuff is quite messed up. A lot of people would agree to the same and so amidst all that was born the Usless Ethereum Token that literally mocks the whole scenario. If you are thinking the name is just a joke, nope. This particular token is literally useless, honest to its title. The founder’s themselves stated not to buy it. How much ridiculous this is can be seen from the official FAQ section:
and what’s even more ridiculous is the fact that people actually brought these tokens! Where is this world headed to? If you think it can’t get any stranger wait for the next one!
#2 CTHULHU OFFERINGS COIN
First examine this weird picture to the left. Scary creature, right? Guess what? Someone thoughts it would be cool if we have a cryptocurrency in it’s honor. It’s actually for real and in at number 2 comes the Cthulhu offerings coin. The name itself leaves us no clue right? What is Cthulhu? For starter’s, it is a fictional cosmic entity created by H.P Lovecraft. That picture you are seeing is this creature. So basically we have a cryptocurrency as a tribute to this fictional creation! The Verge termed it as
“The most confusing digital currency yet”
The word offering here literally means mining and obtaining the coins. Here are the words of the developer, stated as such,
“The time draws near, the return of The Great Old One is upon us. Join us in our ritual.”
Ritual here apparently refers to offering of coins. They use their own slang. Could anything ever get weirder in this cryptocurrency culture! These things don’t even have any real life significance! From the technical side, this coin is based on something called ‘Quark’ which is essentially considered a more secure implementation of bitcoin using latest algorithms however the whole concept of cthulhu offerings coin is basically some random group of people wasting their electricity in name of a fictional entity.
You might be wondering. If we had placed this one at number 2, what could possibly be at the top of the list? Let me break the ice, number one doesn’t exist, at least not yet in our list. Sorry to disappoint if you were expecting something more insane but yeah, it may come into existence in near future. The idea is to create our own cryptocurrency, the most ridiculous, one can imagine. Of course, we ideated on something that might actually have a practical application for the future.
Often, what may sound totally irrelevant and ridiculous in one generation may become one of the greatest creation of the next! We never know. If we do create that unique cryptocurrency in the near future, I think I would call it ‘The Xenoly Coin’
