“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”– Mark Zuckerberg

No matter what you do, if you want to be successful, you have to take some sort of risk. It is an inevitable part of any pursuit.

Most of the people compromise over their dreams because of the fear of failure. They choose the safe path. Which normally goes like: get good grades, get a nice job, make some money, make a family… And they set aside their dreams for later. However, the truth is that most of them never get back to their dreams.

Sometimes, the reason that people don’t start chasing their dreams early might be because they don’t have the money. But if you set your dreams aside, hoping for a time when you will be more wealthy, this will be the result: once you have made enough money, you will be so busy already and there won’t be enough time, and once you have enough time and enough money you would have become too old and won’t be having enough energy to carry on your pursuits.

So don’t wait to have everything you need as abundantly as you need them, such a thing will never happen.

You have to start with what you have and should make up for the missing things as you move on. This is a necessary risk associated with any pursuit.

Success is only meant for risk-takers. You must be willing to give yourself the permission to fail. Unless you do that you cannot be comfortable with risks. It is true that taking risks is a fearful thing, but you will have to adapt. All the great people who take enormous risks, they aren’t fearless; they are just willing to do things despite the fear. So don’t wait for your fear to vanish, it will always be there. And you will never feel that you are confident enough to take that daring leap. But if you want to succeed, you will have to do it despite all these things that are holding you back.

I have heard Seth Godin talk about a wonderful Italian term, ‘Salto Mortale’, which means: the daring leap into the void. Every person who wants to be successful in their craft should be willing to take that leap. There is no other way.

“Your present circumstances does not determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start” — Nido Qubein.

So don’t wait until it’s too late, start with what you have and keep moving forward.
