The 2022 film by Matchstick Productions explores the world through the eyes of a 12 year-old freestyle phenomenon. It won “Film of the Year” at the International Freesports Film Festival, the “Cannes of the ski world.”

Palisades Village was lit up on a recent October night, as skiers and boarders of all ages gathered to watch Anywhere From Here, a coming of age story mixed with skiing exploits from across the globe.

The first showing at Palisades was sold out with an estimated 300 people attending. Jeremy Jones, the founder of Jones Snowboards and Myshell Parker, a leading outdoor athlete and activist, both showed their support for the film.

“I think the female presence in this film is going to be really strong and I’m super stoked on that,” Parker said of Tonje Kvivik’s debut on the big screen. The Canadian-based Norwegian skier won ‘Standout female skier of the year’ at the most recent IF3 awards for her own segment in the film.

The film’s storyline centers around a young skier, Walker “Shredz”, as he shows his skills and ponders his future as a young emerging athlete. The voice of the 12-year-old narrating was not Walker himself, the director Scott Gaffney explained, but his son who did the narration.

A local who was attending the event said that he was excited to see younger kids featured in this film. “It was cool to see the best of the best showcase their talent, but not forgetting where that love for skiing comes from,” he said.

Gaffney said he was especially proud of this film for its outstanding athleticism, and everyone’s mutual effort to tell a great story too.

“This never gets old,” he said, hearing the applause after the screening, standing on the side of the room.
