Humans of Reno series: Local Musician Excited for the Potential of Redevelopment

The life of Reno-based, cigar-smoking, musician Michael Kalenis has gone through some interesting twists and turns.

Previously a student in journalism at the University of Oregon, Michael Kalenis had to drop out for financial reasons. He came to Reno in the 1980s and has been here making music ever since. He has put out seven albums and is currently working on his eighth. A huge fan of rock-and-roll, his influences are Kurt Cobain and John Lennon. He comes out to City Plaza so he can play his music without angering his neighbors and enjoy a cigar at the same time.
