A Prog Rocker Continues What JS Bach Did for Product Development
An evening masterclass with the best keyboardist of all time
If music is the love of your life, after a temporary or even prolonged separation, you will always find your way back to it.
I had read something akin to the above back when my formal training as a pianist came to a premature stop. Now decades later, my experiences epitomize this simple line of wisdom, as I find myself giving my children consistent lessons on the piano and regularly accompanying their school concerts.
Even though I have a very limited number of students, their learning needs have impelled me to keep up with developments in the field and reconnect with the community of musicians. Thus, I sat once again in the hallowed Killian Hall at my alma mater, MIT, one recent evening for a masterclass with Jordan Rudess, the child prodigy that Music Radar Magazine had voted the “Best Keyboardist of All Time.”
Having trained as a classical pianist at Juilliard since he was in the third grade, Jordan credits the Minimoog Synthesizer and his exposure to artists like Pink Floyd in his late teenhood for having initiated his deviation from a haughty world to foray into the school of rock.
