Response to a Prompt:
A Story About 10 Earworms & An Unexpected Moment
Those songs where you say: Can’t Get You Out Of My Head!
If you’re old like me and not fluent in “Millenialish” (or is it “Millenialese”), you might not be familiar with the word “Earworm.”
…Unless you happen to be a corn farmer. Well, we're not talking about the hairy greenish brown caterpillars that can make your next BBQ a “holey” nightmare (they burrow into corn cobs and could devastate a crop), but about a song that you listen to, and then it just goes right round like a record baby, right right ‘round, ‘round, ‘round…in your head, in your head they are fighting.
Can An Earworm Be A Good Thing?
Well, that’s subjective; is it a great or terrible song you accidentally heard? If you just got cast in a musical and were trying to learn the score, then I think any new and potential “earworm” might be beneficial. After all, isn’t that what Andrew Lloyd Webber, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin, or any other composer strive for, that their songs would become “Earworms”?
