Late 2022’s The Loneliest Time mapped out Carly’s feelings of isolation and process of coming to terms with loneliness. The album was a fantastic mix of synth-pop with moments of folk-inspired tracks such as “Western Wind” and “Go Find Yourself or Whatever.”

Like everyone else, I wanted with bated breath for the b-sides project she’d release with this album cycle. Unlike her prior two albums, this album is more of a companion than a simple collection of b-sides.

In a letter Carly Rae released on social media, she said the following about The Loneliest Time & The Loveliest Time:

“It’s sad sometimes, it’s experimental, and it’s ecstatic too. It’s what happens after you’ve survived your first night alone and you realize-I’m okay. In fact, I can thrive like this. Connection comes next. Find the people that get you and never let them go.”

Compared to the vulnerable state opening her prior record, “Anything to Be With You” sees Jepsen unabashedly carefree in her desire to fall in love. This freedom is mirrored in the electric guitar's beachy sounds and drums' sandy crunch. There is a euphoric sense of bliss…
