It’s that time of year again—time for that most hallowed of traditions, the time-honored ritual so many of us hold dear.

That’s right; it’s time to dust off your favorite holiday hits!

Maybe you’re playing Whamageddon…or maybe you're like me and were knocked out before noon on the 1st. Perhaps you wait all year to meet the final boss of earworms?

Either way, we’ve got an exciting event happening this year—happening right now, literally as you read this.

Read on to see what all the fuss is about and how you can join the fun!

The Riff’s Holiday Song Extravaganza,

It’s time to make your case for your holiday favorites! You can do that by adding your picks to The Riff’s Holiday Playlist. Have one your grandma always used to play? Maybe one you played for your first Christmas away from home?

Whatever the story is, we want to hear it!

For our monthly group discussion, we will be mixing things up. Instead of focusing on a single record, the topic will be this list! We will meet on December 8th at 4 PM Eastern to discuss the tracks on the list and share the stories behind our choices.

These are always a blast; it’ll be even better with you there. Please mark your calendars and make a plan to join us!

The Best Song of 2024

December is also time for another hallowed tradition — making one’s “Best Of” lists.

I’m not immune to list-making — I love it as much as anyone. It’s a great exercise. But as much fun as making one’s own list is, it’s more fun as a group. If you’re reading this, you’re already in the club. We don’t have cool jackets, but you do get to vote.

Every year, I wonder if this’ll be the year we see a drop in the amount of “good” music released, and all year long, I was proved wrong. It was another year of blockbuster records, and there were also countless smaller releases. It felt overwhelming in all the best ways.

So, what was your song this year? Maybe it was Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” Perhaps you enjoyed Chappell Roan’s “Hot To Go.” Maybe it was neither of those. Whatever it was, we want to hear about it. You can cast your vote right here. Those tracks will be the subject of our first meeting of 2025.

Vote early, vote often!

I’m in! How do I join the meeting?

First, vote for your favorite holiday song and song of the year. Then mark your calendar for Sunday, December 8th. We’ll start at 4 PM Eastern.

Note: We are always looking for ways to promote these discussions outside Medium and can use your help. Sharing this with your friends, posting it on your socials, etc., really helps and makes a huge difference. We are also now on Bluesky. If you’ve also recently made the move, come say hello!
