WEIRD ALBUMS SERIES ENTRY THIRTY
Estradasphere Changed Music’s Rulebook With ‘It’s Understood’
Another addition to experimental music
There are times when a band isn’t weird or experimental enough.
In this instance, three members of Secret Chiefs 3 started Estradasphere. They created music that any suburban white kid would find incredible, and professional instrumentalists would say, “I can do better.”
Incredible?
Sure.
Can they do it better?
Why not.
But one thing is clear: who can outperform them in Bulgarian Surf and Romanian Gypsy-Metal?
Welcome to the 30th entry of the Weird Albums Series. WAS is a (somewhat) monthly review where I discuss albums beyond typical music structures. Today’s album is Estradasphere’s debut, It’s Understood.
In each installment, I provide an overview of the album’s background, share my thoughts, and explore its legacy. Then, I rate the album using the Beefheartian Scale. Experimental music enthusiasts invented this rating system to describe albums that resemble Captain Beefheart.
A ten in the rating system means: “Hot damn, that’s weird!”
