“Hey, sorry to bother you, but where did you get that?” said the young woman on the bus.

She was pointing to the blue guitar keychain on my backpack. It’s a keychain my mother bought me on her second trip to Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. I told her, “Graceland,” but she couldn’t hear me, given the bus’s loud engine.

“I can’t hear you. Can you type it?”

She gave me her phone, and I typed in Graceland, Memphis.

“All the way from there,” she said.

Yup, all the way from there.

Graceland, Memphis is a small part of Memphis, Tennessee, hosting Elvis’ house. This iconic home has entertained guests and fans for forty years and will continue for decades (maybe centuries.) Graceland is a preview of rockstar life. It’s a sneak peek of how a poor boy did good.

However, Graceland has more to tell than Elvis Presley. From the original owners to how it became a tourist destination.

Let’s unpack Graceland’s legacy.
