How to Use Lyrical Music for Productivity if You Don’t Like Instrumental Music

Let go of the need to be distracted by music when you hustle.

Have you ever annoyed people with loud music? You’re not alone. If you communicate assertively, reducing the loudness will improve your relationship with the second person because music is like social circles. It’s hard to change your preference in a split second.

If you’re not an audio engineer and just a user of an OTT platform to stream music on your device, you’ll experience broadly two types of music:

  • Instrumental music
  • Lyrical music

As I’ve stated in the subtitle of this article, this article is for you if you find instrumental music to be trash, and all you want is to twerk mentally to loud music.

Cold turkey is hard

I’m working without music nowadays. The ease depends on the time you want to spend in a single work session. I spend around 20 minutes and then take a 5-minute walk or drink water to refresh my mind.

If you want to stick for longer than 23 minutes, novelty bias will steal your attention even if you’re working in a quiet environment.

Reduce the resistance to control

I was struggling with music at work because I wanted to play the music that I liked. That meant whenever a random song came on that I hated, my attention from work shifted to doomscrolling Apple Music.

Do you see how a single distraction tore my attention?

Play a song that fades in the background and make sure music doesn’t interfere with your productivity.

Lyrical music can fade in the background too.

That’s what I’m doing at work now. When I feel like the computer is taking time to respond and my patience has hit rock bottom, I play music while making sure about one condition—turn the single-repeat on.

When you don’t have to switch your attention to change the music all time or lisp the lyrics because it’s the same for minutes or hours on repeat, the lyrical music will fade in the background like instrumental music.

If you’re a party animal, I hope you’ve found some ways to satiate your hunger for the outgoing experience you crave in your home.

I listen to loud music. But once I found out it is bad for mental health and disturbs other people (no matter how good friends you are).

I’ve found the following ways to use music for my productivity:

  • Play the same song on repeat.
  • If you want to increase the focus, turn the volume down for your mental health.
  • Work in burst sessions to neutralise the novelty bias.
