Is Nirvana a Dad Rock Band?
And what is it that makes Dad Rock, Dad Rock.
Dad Rock isn’t synonymous with any single artist or style.
These are labels typically conjured up by Gold radio stations or Magazines like Classic Rock, with a view to speak to a particular audience or demographic to market a cohort of artists that fit more or less into the engagement set of a particular interest group.
Nirvana’s breakthrough album, Nevermind, is over 30 years old. That record’s mastermind and visionary — Kurt Cobain — died in 1994. April 5th to be exact. The people who dialed into Nirvana’s sound, propelling them to the forefront of the mainstream music scene towards the end of 1991, may not have been parents then, but a significant amount of them will have become parents by now.
Does a band listened to by dads automatically make the band Dad Rock?
