Twenty years ago, when I was escaping from corporate America, I happened to date several beautiful Black women who worked in entertainment.

The first was from the Bronx, and I remember meeting her through an ad I wrote on Craigslist. We became friends, and she playfully teased me and said I was corny because I was raised in Queens; she liked to give me shit about Bronx emcees being better, but whatever — the bridge was over.

We talked on the phone often, and since I was breaking into entertainment at that time, she shared her past experiences as an early member of Hip-Hop journalism, working at several magazines since the mid-90s. She shared stories about getting paid late, not getting paid for freelance assignments, and dealing with tons of other trifling shit just so she could make it as a writer.

During one of our conversations, Ms. Bronx segued into dirt in the industry and mentioned Diddy, who we still referred to as Puffy, as we knew him from his Hip-Hop infancy with Bad Boy records. She never said anything about him doing anything illegal; she did, however, allude to sexual escapades and his bisexuality.
