As the heat rises, so does our anxiety, and for some of us — okay me for sure — so does our irritability.

I’m less anxious and irritable for the moment because I just did a relaxing yoga sequence specifically designed to relieve anxiety. Often, Yoga with Adriene allows me to release the toxins, and today is definitely an anti-toxin sort of palette.

Earlier, as Max and I were walking and the breeze kept us from getting too caught up in the mid-June swoon, we saw a friendly black dog trotting toward us, no owner in sight. The dog, Lucy, looked as if she knew we were the sort of dog and human who might help her, if not love her immediately. She wasn’t hurt, just a bit lost. She let me pet her and look at the tags around her collared neck. Her owner’s phone number was clear, but all I got was the answering machine when I called it.

Fortunately, her Vet tag was also attached, and since it was our Vet too, I called and got some good information; the owners were out of town, and Lucy was “being watched” by a neighbor.

“Not very well,” I said.
