My Favourite Music from 2024
A weird year, to say the least
What a year. For music anyway, but it's times like these that we tend to appreciate it the most– and rightly so! Music has gotten us through a lot as a society. I can barely remember how the year began, but it still feels like the next year should be farther away. But we are already in it. I did not listen to any music in the summer, but the colder months made me crave it, and I have obliged. I was in a more subdued mood this year, and it is probably going to show in my list — which is not an actual favourite album list in any defined order. It will just be me listing off projects I liked from this year.
Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend
This is a fantastic album. I had only listened to ‘California English’ before listening to this album, and I was blown away; it may not be as mind-blowing for folks who have been listening to them for a while, but it was such a refreshing sound to me. When traced back, Vampire Weekend touched on this sound towards the latter end of “Modern Vampires of the City,” and I love ‘Hudson’; I love Ezra’s voice, I love the way it is structured, I love the mix, the slight rust on the recording — it is quite an impressive song.
