What was your first live concert? What stirred your soul, rocked your foundation and shaped your love affair with music?

Ask any music lover about their first concert and get ready for a story. It’s about the music, of course, but it’s also about getting there — whether it was a bunch of kids on a train, a “cool” parent driving, or girlfriends in tube tops in a 1969 Mustang convertible. It’s about meeting people, whether it was a security guard who told you when you could “rush” the stage, or the KISS fan who was dressed like Gene Simmons from wig to platform boot. It’s always about the band, whether the concert was a one-time fluke or the beginning of a life-long relationship.

Music lovers agree, there’s nothing like the proverbial “first time.”

As writers, we knew there were stories to be shared, but putting them on paper just didn’t work. Reading about a concert didn’t capture that eye sparkle when someone remembers their favorite song, or the crinkled nose when recalling that “funny scent in the air.”

We launched My First Concert Story on YouTube in March, 2020. We did it just for fun and our own entertainment. So far, the video stories we’ve gathered from friends and acquaintances have reached over 1,000 views, and Gene Simmons even re-tweeted a story from a first timer who vividly remembers seeing KISS in concert.

Reminiscing enlivens and unites us. Each story helps us re-visit our own experiences of concerts, venues, friends, shenanigans and the adrenaline-filled spiritual experience of enjoying live music en-masse.

Please enjoy #myfirstconcertstory on Youtube and follow us on your favorite social media. Most importantly, if you have a good story, share it! Tell your story to your spouse, kids or co-workers. To share with us, send a short video to myfirstconcertstory@gmail.com and we’ll add you to the YouTube channel.

Keep the music alive!
