Throughout my time on The Riff, I’ve written a few articles about forgotten members of famous bands. On the two separate occasions The Beatles were mentioned, I did not include Pete Best in either entry. I always thought that I’d cover him in a future follow-up list, but then it hit me.

Pete Best can’t be considered a stranger or a forgotten figure in the eyes of many fans of the Fab Four. After all, his abrupt and somewhat acrimonious exit from the group has become an integral part of Beatles lore mainly because it serves as the catalyst for Ringo Starr’s introduction into the group.

Thus, Pete Best is usually best known as The Beatles’ original drummer, a man left to disappear into obscurity while his old friends went on to become megastars. However, there is more to the story of Pete Best than just being the guy left behind by The Beatles.

Let us take a look at the early life of Pete Best, his often understated contributions to The Beatles, and what he has gone on to do since his exit from the group over a half-century ago.

This is the story of Pete Best: The Beatle left behind.
