I attach a feeling of sickly euphoria to heightened spiritual experiences. It approximates the optimistic crest of undulating waves of anxiety.
I’m not religious, but today, I’m here to talk about religious music. I’m here to talk about SAVED! and the religious fervour of Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter.
I think it’s important to distinguish spirituality from religion. It’s not at all what Descartes meant by dualism, but may still serve as a useful metaphor. The body performs the rites and practices of religion, and the mind engages in spiritual functions.
I’d argue that these forces aren’t of the same origin. However, if I draw a parallel to the physical manifestation of anxiety (as one example), it may be born in the mind but is experienced by the being. And this is what Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter has presented on SAVED! A sound of the mind, manifest in the body.
