Monday sucks; this is one thing, maybe the only thing, we can all agree on. Mondays suck so bad that the most famous songs about Monday all talk about just how much it, well, sucks. But there is a silver lining, small though it may be: some great songs about Monday have been recorded over the past six decades.
To celebrate that, and to help you navigate this Monday and the ones that will inevitably, brutally keep recurring every seven days, here is a “Monday on Monday” playlist. It’s got a little of everything, including a duo I would never include on any other playlist. I’ll let you figure out which one that is from the descriptions that follow the playlist.
1. “I Don’t Like Mondays” by The Boomtown Rats (1979). The ultimate “Monday sucks” anthem for four decades running now, and likely the only Boomtown Rats song you’ve ever heard of. The inspiration of the song is tragic, but the song itself is an earworm that is almost impossible to shake.
