Before you get your torches and pitchforks out, hear me out. How can a band sell millions of copies and make millions of dollars, and they’re not an older rock group? Since Nickelback’s inception, they have made 17 million dollars on record sales, and the number keeps growing.

To get to the bottom of this, I had the privilege of listening to every Nickelback album (I can smell music now) and deep research to find out what makes these Canadians masterminds.

Who is Nickelback?

Besides being the punching bag of the rock fandom, they’re a Canadian rock band from Hanna, Alberta, which formed in 1995 by brothers Chad Kroeger (vocals/guitar), Mike Kroeger (bass), Brandon Kroeger (drummer), and Ryan Peake (guitar). They first called themselves Village Idiot, and they played covers of Led Zeppelin and Metallica covers. Later, they changed their name to Nickelback because Mike Kroeger while giving change to a customer at Starbucks, would say, “Here’s your Nickel back.”

In 1996, they released an EP called Hesher, and LP Curb. You can hear a lot of the 90s grunge in their early releases.

After 2002, Brandon Kroeger left the band, and they replaced him with Daniel Patrick Adair, a drummer from Three Doors Down. From there, they kept releasing success…
