The GRAMMY’s 2024 ‘Best Album Notes’ Nominations Announced
Forget Best New Artist or Album of the Year; when the Grammys release their annual nominations, I look at the Best Album Notes. These are the albums that have come with the best-researched and best-written liner notes for the past year.
It’s odd. Because we primarily stream music, album liner notes have become forgotten outside of rare occasions. There have been attempts to include digital booklets with downloads, but record labels don’t often make these available to those who choose to stream.
This year’s Grammys feature a few albums I’ve listened to, such as John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy, but I still haven’t had a chance to read their liner notes. Getting that extra context is always useful for compilations of music from the past, and the Grammys are now my annual reminder to seek out some great box sets such as those listed below.
