Viagra Boys’ ‘viagr aboys’ | Album of the Year?
If the lead track is anything to go by, we’re on a winner here, people.
Plenty is more obnoxious than a January declaration of album of the year.
As that list is inexhaustible, you can decide what warrants comparison.
I was gonna do it last year for Sleater Kinney’s Little Rope, but I got sidetracked and no longer recall if I feted it to that degree.
And it’s fun, as I haven’t heard anything from the forthcoming Viagra Boys LP except the new single — Man Made of Meat — which is a decidedly true statement, whichever way you slice it.
I’m a reasonably recent Viagra Boys devotee and mostly dialed into their Welfare Jazz record from 2021. I don’t think they’re as weird as everyone suggests, but there’s a certain look to the past to predict the future about their calamitous jams.
The best part of talking about an artist’s influences is that most of the time, as a listener, you’re convinced of something that’s probably untrue. And as a listener, it kinda matters only to you. Try leveraging someone else’s favourite band when pitching them one they don’t know. It’s a lead balloon strategy.
