Why the Beach Boys are the Second-Best Rock Band of All Time

Best friends, first dates, family gatherings, or chatting up new friends at a bar we list the reasons why our favorite band is a cultural landmark, the best of the genre, and the greatest artist not getting their righteous accolades. There are few topics we speak about with sincerity, clarity, and passion. Music is tribal. Music is a shaper of our outward image. Music is a daily ritual. Music makes us laugh, cry, commiserate, celebrate, and reminisce.

Most music enthusiasts and pop culture junkies will abide, the Beatles is the greatest rock band of all time. There is a debate about who is the second greatest, and the many reasons are certainly compelling.

Some argue their favored artist is number two because of undeniable statistics; most number one original songs in a decade, most charting albums in a row, most awards, total record sales, or number of sold-out tours. However, you present your case, there is no unanimous choice. On goes the debate.

A lifelong lover of music, a former music industry insider, and a history nerd my vote for the number two all-time band is the Beach Boys. Their appearance on the scene was early in the story of rock n roll music.
