Yesterday, I was having a conversation with a person who actually said these words out loud: “I think Britney Spears is coming back.” And that was when I decided it was my duty to educate the public about the underrated musicians that people refer to as Indie Pop artists. If you have never heard of Indie Pop music, I don’t want to undersell the idea, but it basically compiles songs and artists that are usually not popular or styled enough to be included in the pop genre. And even though these songs rarely reach the top charts like “Someone You Loved,” by Lewis Capaldi, I tend to enjoy them more because they are never overplayed. So let’s get into it! Here are the five best Indie Musicians and their five best songs.

5. Tom Walker

After rising to fame in 2018 because of his single “Leave a Light On,” which peaked at number seven on the UK Singles Chart, the British singer has continued to write and sing songs, although any tour dates are cancelled at the moment. He has gained a loyal following and is considered to be one of the leading Indie Pop artists in Britain and America.

1. Tom Odell

Tom Odell is a twenty-nine year old Indie Pop singer that arose in the 2010s after his song “Another Love” gained a quick following. Odell was born in Chichester, West Sussex, England to middle class family, with an airline pilot as a father, and a primary school teacher as a mother; he also has one older sister. For a brief time, Odell played with a band- Tom and the Tides- but they broke up after Tom said that he “didn’t want to have to rely on people.” As of July 2020, Odell is living in London and is continuing to share his passion of music- even if all tours and concerts are being put on hold at the moment.
