Wednesday: Rivers Makes Headlines

The days are zipping by and there is still so much to see and do in Cádiz! Everyone is noting the great jump in comprehension and ability to communicate. Local phrases are on the tip of the tongue and inside jokes are shared easily in Spanish. (¡Ladrillo!)

This morning’s class was a headline maker both literally and figuratively as we visited the offices of the Diario de Cádiz, the popular newspaper gaditano. Students were given an inside tour of the making of the paper, from meeting journalists to getting a glimpse of the production side of putting out a daily paper. So much new vocabulary in action! The visit was topped by a photograph of our eager group for the front page. ¡Los famosos estudiantes de Rivers!

Back to our families to enjoy a meal and share time that is rapidly dwindling.

After comida we met at the Museo Histórico de San Fernando for an up close look the many artifacts from the archeological sites in and around Cádiz. Our students peppered our guide with questions about the places they had been and the lessons they had learned in the past week and a half as they stood before larger than life Roman statues, cases of fine ancient jewelry and everyday tools, authentic mosaic floors, paintings from some of Spain’s most renowned artists, and of course the famous Phoenician sarcophagi.
