By blood, I am Albanian, By citizenship, an Indian, By faith, I am a Catholic nun, As to my calling, I belong to the world, As to my heart, I belong entirely to the heart of Jesus” -Mother Teresa

We are all here, on this Earth for a reason. We all eat, drink, breathe, and fight struggles constantly, doing this thing called life. We all have things we love, and things we hate; things we can change and things we know are better left unsaid. Have you ever had a feeling though, that you could not shake? A feeling that you felt so strong about, you knew you had to say something to see if anything would change? Mother Teresa is a shining example of someone who took that risk of touching the untouchable, and following what she was most passionate about.

At the age of twelve, a women by the name of Mother Teresa already felt like she was being called by God. She constantly heard what seemed like soft voices telling her that she would become a very important religious figure when she grows up. She felt these tiny voices were God speaking to her. She was not quite certain though that it was God calling her and she often asked him,

“How can I be so sure?”

He answered her and said,

“Through your joy. If you feel really happy by the idea that God might call you to serve him, then this is the evidence that you have a call. The deep inner joy that you feel is the compass that indicates your direction in life.”

Think about what God just said to Mother Teresa. Are you really happy with what you are doing, or planning to do in the future? Do you think that God has called you to do something bigger and better than what you have planned? Through your joy. What is that suppose to mean? Is having inner joy really the key to a successful life? In Mother Teresa’s life that joy was God. God was what she was passionate about and by following him she found out what she was even more passionate about. God was telling her to go and help the poor and do it with so much love and joy no matter what challenges she may face. So she did. She went and she loved.

Her journey started in Calcutta, India. The population in that part of India was around 4.497 million. This part of India was very big, and had many poor and extensive slum regions. She started off teaching, then later went and volunteered at the community’s hospitals. During her time in the hospitals, Teresa witnessed poverty, and horrible misery for the first time in her life. After that day, Teresa was determined to try and stop, or at least help this horrible thing that people have to go through. With what God called her to do in the back of her mind, she approached the situation with arms open wide, seeking for ways to help. She wanted to make a difference as much as she could. She spent hours upon hours caring for the sick and poor. All her work was later described into three words: Humility, simplicity, and sacrifice.

One, among many of her favorite quotes.

She soon became the principle of the school of St. Mary, in Calcutta, India. Then later went into teaching outside the school walls and into the slums. Her mission was to cure the malady of feeling unwanted, and she wanted to always show love and care wherever she went. She strongly believed no one should be treated unfairly, or without kindness and love.

Mother Teresa is still known today as one of the happiest people that ever lived. Her belief towards God was so strong that it allowed her to move mountains. She created so many charities, a home for the dying in Calcutta, and saved hundreds of people. Mother Teresa is a women, she is a women who created all of these organizations herself. She never let being a women stop her from doing what she strongly believed in.

Finding your passion is something you should seek to find. It makes you love what you do, and brings more of a purpose to it. No matter what age, color, size, or appearance we may have, we all our a like in a way. We all are able to find what we are passionate about and go after it.

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. -Mother Teresa
