Day 11: Career Services and Intro to HTML

Day 11 started in a different way from all the others so far in the program. We had our first career services lesson. This was an exciting and motivating time for me, despite it being first thing in the morning on a Monday. The career services person on staff at Galvanize in Austin seems like an awesome person who genuinely wants to help students meet people and find jobs they love.
After lunch we dove into something else which we haven’t covered at all since the prework before our cohort started: HTML.
It was a pretty basic intro to HTML type lecture, which I appreciated, but we did already cover a topic that I was unfamiliar with. That topic is semantic HTML. Basically, HTML5 gave us a lot of new tags that are really helpful and much more descriptive than just wrapping different sections of a page into a bunch of different <div> tags.
Semantic tags include:
- Header
- Nav
- Main
- Section
- Article
- Aside
- Footer
Using these descriptive tags will be helpful going forward to keep my code clear and readable to myself and others if I am working with a team. I’m excited to dive deeper into HTML this week and get going on the assignments that are waiting for me. Yay, learning!
