Four years of hard work

What would you do if you trained for four years for a tournament and were then told you couldn’t compete unless you dismissed your religion in public? For two weeks.

How would you feel having someone who is not part of your religion informing you of these new conditions, which, in your opinion, is very discriminatory?

Will you conform and park your religion for two weeks or will you walk away?

The biggest sports festival in the world will commence in Paris, France, about 100 days from now.

Ibtihaj Muhammad became the first Muslim athlete to compete for the United States while wearing hijab when she won fencing bronze at Rio 2016

Four years of blood and sweat have gone into organising the venues, attracting sponsors, and spending billions of euros on making this the best Olympics ever.

Security will be a topic in the news leading up to the games, which will generate a lot of controversy. We all hope that nothing untoward happens and that the games go well for everyone.

Last year France Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera made a speech where she said

“ The France team will not wear the headscarf.”

She was referring to the hijab, which is worn by Muslim women when they are competing or in public.

So, if you are a French Muslim female athlete, you will not be able to compete at the Olympic games for France with a hijab. If you don’t wear it, you can compete.

All the Muslim athletes from all the other nations who will also be competing in France will be free to compete with their hijab.

What do you think about the French Olympic ban?

Would you conform, or would you leave.
