Today is a good day for the SMS addict — the curly hair emojis are finally here! Bravo to Dove. Again you have created another phenomenal campaign to embrace curly-haired beauties around the world.

But how did all this get started? Earlier this year, Dove introduced a campaign “Love Your Curls”, featuring interviews of little girls with different ethnic backgrounds expressing concerns they had about their non-straight hair. This is a message all women from various backgrounds and differing hair textures could relate to at some point in their lives. Haven’t seen it? Get the tissues ready and watch it here:

I must admit the reactions of these little girls were a shock to me. Speaking as an Asian girl with natural, straight hair my entire life, I wanted to have an afro! (It’s still on my to do list.) Loving the way you are is the ultimate message here. We were born this way, and it’s beautiful.

Today, as an extension to bringing awareness to Love Your Curls, Dove introduced an emoji keyboard designed to celebrate curls! As good things all comes in threes — and today is the day:

  1. There are 27 unique curl hair designs + combinations of skin tones = 131 variations PLUS 7 animated gifs to choose from. OMG (insert shocking face emoji here)
  2. IT’S FREE TODAY ONLY! Head to the App Store and Google Play NOW! (insert running emoji here)
  3. What’s more? Today is the day if you tweet #LoveYourCurls on Twitter, a curly emoji will materialise post-hashtag. Too cute to be true! (no time to insert emojis)

GET IT NOW and tell your curly-haired friends their hair is beautiful today!
