It made my day when I heard about women in Saudi Arabia winning the right to register to vote for the first time in the country’s history. It is another step in the right direction for what has been a traditionally been a misogynist culture.

While Saudi Arabia may be still far from establishing equal gender rights — but hey, that’s not to say countries in the west have got that right, either — the involvement of women in decisions directly related to how the country is governed can only be a positive.

Off the back of this news, I started to look into Saudi women’s involvement in fashion and how they are influencing the wider industry outside of the Muslim nation.

Mipsters — a new term we need to list in the Oxford English Dictionary — is a new definition of femininity among young Muslim women. Muslim+Hipster = Mipsters. It’s an increasingly visible movement in pop culture, from adidas campaigns to Madonna videos.

Leading fashion retailers such as ASOS have officially introduced the first Muslim clothing brand SADOQ, while The New York Times is inviting stylish Muslim girls to post pictures of themselves in hijabs to Instagram.

Georgous, aren’t they!?

Mexico-based design agency Anagrama has created hip branding for headscarf maker T4Turban.

Bravo to these self expressive fabulous muslim woman. You rock my world!! The fashion world has certainly started to celebrate the new digitally-connected, stylish, and entrepreneurial stance offered by Muslim women. The world is getting pumped, ladies. I am envisioning a new TRH collection inspired by this exciting transition as I type. It’s upwards and onwards guys!
