10 Years of Full Time Freelancing. I got some cahunas, alright.

10 Years. Clients from over 20 countries. Going from 50 cents/hour to 80$/hour. From working 70 hours/week to less than 20 hours/week. It’s been one hell of an adventure man. Thank you God, Wonderful Clients and Capitalism.

Between 2008 and 2012, I changed perhaps, 6 jobs. Could be more. I was changing jobs so fast, and it was so long ago, the companies, the offices, the attractive, buxom HR women…they all blur together. Already in 2007, when I did my 2 month internship, I was feeling that gnawing feeling of depression.

I told myself, it was just regular shock of working in an office.

However, when I started my job, immediately after campus life ending, my mind and body started rejecting the office life immediately. 4 years later, 2012, I realised, this cannot go on. Depression would peak around 12 30 PM. I would constantly find myself in the restroom, crying or silently screaming and increasing frequency of suicidal thoughts.

I decided to stop aiming for salaried jobs, and go freelancing/contract work only.

Work where I can quit without having to go through 10,000 formalities and HR ‘intervention’ sessions.

Over the last 2 years, I have experienced at least 2 bankruptcies. The first time, it was my own mistake. 2nd time, it was also my own mistake, but the pandemic made it worse.

Yet, I kept going. Something about my braind and mind and heart, does not like the office life. Somehow, eventually things worked out.

As always, I am thankful to God, and my wonderful Clients. My mom helped, of course. So did my friend from Finland. And so many others, whom’s contributions range from minor to major, over the last 10 years.

I work as a full time freelance coding tutor. Hire me at UpWork or Fiverr or Stack Overflow. My personal website is here. Find more of my art at Behance and Unsplash. Also, I have a Podcast about everyday life. And, a 2nd Podcast, where I talk about freelancing.
