Aha! Back to Using 4 Screens For Coding Again
An Australian telecom startup hired me to manage their entire project a few weeks ago. I figured, I will bring out all my developer things out of storage. Get back in the game, eh?
Last year, around the time of March and April, I was working for another startup, this time in US. Remotely, of course.
Then, that was the time when the pandemic was still raging in India. That was also the time it dawned upon me that my marriage is over, and I will probably not see my kids or get to grow old with them.
I was going through a lot.
Yet, I assumed that my mind and body can still code. Turns out, I wasn’t. I messed up. The client proceeded to collect all refunds and managed to drag my reputation on Fiverr down while he was at it. Of course, he took down my reputation on PayPal as well
He could have been gentler. Yet, it was and is my fault.
Then, I proceeded to quit from development work entirely. Since then, I have been focusing on simpler work. Limiting myself to tutoring, and only taking on mini projects. It’s worked out okay.
Then, a few weeks ago, this guy from Australia hires me as a tutor. Then, he asks to hear my story. He listens. I told him that I am not as good as I used to be. Even when I was at my peak, pre-pandemic, I was a below average developer at best.
Now, I am even less than that.
Yet, for some reason, he decides to trust me. Now, him and me, we are working on this small project for a few months. See if it works out for both us.
It feels good to be using so many monitors again. Two monitors for coding. One screen for Zoom calls. Another for gaming and entertainment. As always, I thank the gods for this. And, of course, the clients who continue to trust me to deliver the goods.
