Space Jam: A New Legacy — Why Did I Enjoy This Movie So Much?
I still have very fond memories of the first Space Jam from the 1990s. I dont know anything about Basketball, back in the 90s. I know nothing about it now. In India, we simply dont get or play Basketball.
That did not stop me from enjoying Michael Jordan running around with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and other cartoon characters in a bizarre, silly movie. Now, 25 years later, I am once again enjoying an almost identical movie. I have no idea, who this LeBron James is. My understanding is, he is the Michael Jordan for the 2000s and 2010s.
The plot is the exact same story as that came before. The basketball superstar has been kidnapped by the evil villainous character. The only way to save the day is to play basketball. It’s literally the exact same movie. A lot of jokes are recycled and there is almost nothing new here.
Yet, I enjoyed it. I was laughing all the time. This Lebron James person has a funny look about him. The graphics are now much better. I like the 3D look of all the characters. It reminds me a lot of Ready Player One, another movie filled to the brim with references to other franchises, characters and such.
Final Note
I want to write more, but, the movie has no plot of any sorts. There is nothing to complain about, and nothing to praise either.
But, it’s fun. It’s a 2 hour commercial for Warner Bros to sell toys and related merchandise to kids. Harmless fun.
