Key Food Marketplace held a grand opening on Aug. 21 in New Brunswick.

The store will provide New Brunswick residents a large selection of products. There are groceries, fresh produce, international food products and kitchen wares in the store. They are also offering a bakery, a juice bar, a cafe, a flower shop, a liquor store and a deli.

There are many sections in Key Food Marketplace. In the international section, a variety of products are displayed from all over the world. They sell a relatively high portion of Asian and Spanish food. They also offer samples of some products, such as barbecue meat and fried rice. Another popular section is the seafood department with many kinds of fresh fish, shrimps and shellfish.

“They have great selection and price for veggies and fruits. Their lunch boxes are also very nice. I heard about its grand opening from my friend. She told me that there are lots of deals here, ” said Carolyn Stacy, a customer of Key Food Marketplace.

“The products’ prices are appealing, especially the weekly special products. I live in Busch, but It is very convenient to come here by Rutgers Bus,” said Vivienne Shi, an international student at Rutgers. “I come here twice a week. I really like their Asian food section and food here seems to be fresher than food in Asian food markets. ”

Key Food Marketplace offers a series of products with a special price within a certain week and changes the list of products once a week.

Kevin Kojima said that he shops in Key Food Marketplace very often because he lives nearby.

“It’s hard for new customers to find the parking entrance. It would be better if there were some signs leading to the entrance. However, the two-hours free parking is attractive because of its downtown location. I know how hard it is to find a parking spot here,” Kevin said. “Food here is fresh and cheap. I just hope they maintain this quality.”

The store is located at 100 Kirkpatrick St. and it is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to midnight on weekends.

Key Food is owned by Kevin Kim. This is his third store in the chain. He has been operating Key Food Marketplace since 2008.

After The Fresh Grocer closed in May 2014 and left New Brunswick residents without a convenient supermarket, they are able to shop again now.
