The Conversation I Had to Have with my Affair Partner.
“Are we still us?”
“Good morning.”
Two words that should feel simple, easy. But this morning, they weren’t.
I hadn’t seen him in nearly two months. No plans made, no set date to meet again. Our connection lived in the virtual world, through late-night Oculus meetups, but reality was creeping in. His wife wasn’t traveling like she used to. The windows of opportunity were closing. And in my head, doubts started swirling.
But this wasn’t just any relationship.
We’ve been seeing each other for six and a half years!
We’ve made it through everything – through life changes, through the pandemic, through times when it felt like the world was collapsing around us. We found ways to stay connected when seeing each other was impossible. And yet, even now, even after all this time, I still needed reassurance and to hear those precious wonderful words telling me of all the things my needy self wants to hear.
Yes, I’m needy but to be truthful, I don’t get my needs met from my sick, disabled husband.
So, I needed to know that we were still us.
