Lake Secrets

Hopes and Dreams for Our Future

In youth,
I craved the beach,
Scorching sun,
Gritty sand,
Thunderous waves —
Noise and action,
Elements of the young.
The beach is for youth,
The energetic,
The striving and stretching,
Those looking forward
With little behind.
In my twilight-er years,
I seek the serene,
Embrace tranquility,
Appreciate the gentle
Curls of water
On the shore.
Like a lake, I
Seek shore birds
Satiny sunsets,
Caressing breezes
And languid hours.
The lake and I are venerable
And ripened,
Wide and meandering
With soft edges
And mysterious depths.
The lake and I
Know secrets
The ocean and youth
Cannot imagine.
