Batch 2018 students from Philippine Science High School — Main Campus (PSHS-MC) participated in BioLOGIC, an annual quiz bee conducted by the University of the Philippines Association of Biology Majors (UP ABM). It was held at the UP Institute of Biology, Diliman, Quezon City last Monday, October 10.

Three teams of two students each from Team Bio, PSHS-MC’s biology training pool, were chosen to join the quiz bee. Team A was composed of Gabrielle Erwin Awitan of 11-A and Clare Therese Gascon of 11-G. Team B was composed of Samantha Nicole Gaw of 11-B and Tanya Corinne David of 11-A. Team C was composed of Juan Paulo Ortiz of 11-A and Sophia Marie Abulencia of 11-B.

The event had three rounds: eliminations, semi-finals, and finals. Team B came home as quiz bee champions while Teams A and C were part of the Top 15 who qualified for the semi-finals.

Gaw attributed her team’s success to luck. She mentioned that, as the questions that appeared in the contest were recently discussed in Team Bio, Gaw and David were able to get them right.

Prior to the competition, the students prepared by studying their reviewers and notes. “There is no formal training for Team Bio. It’s really all their effort,” said Sir Christian Abagat, Team Bio’s adviser.

The BioLOGIC quiz bee aims to promote biology as an essential subject and as an institution for the development of the community. They endeavor to provide a platform for healthy academic competition among students who are knowledgeable in the field. High school students from Metro Manila were invited to participate in this annual event.
