In a lifetime there are only a few places you’ll be at, only a few ways you’ll think in, and just one role you’ll play by as there’s just one life you’ve got. But with reading, you can build up your adventurous imagination in several ways. It can allow you to live a special life, one which you can shape in your own way. Reading is a pleasurable and soothing act once you’re habituated with it.

Even when reading is the most sought habit, not many start reading in their early years. They might get a knack of it later. While working on your vocabulary, reading books would contribute majorly towards your communication and representational skills. It molds your personality and shapes your ability to think, focus, and concentrate.

You may read e-books, physical copies, Kindle-ware, Watt pad stories. But according to surveys and researches, book readers prefer reading physical copies simply because of the overall experience which makes it even more real and enjoyable.

Here are some books which you would want to grab and get your hands on-

  1. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy -

“He folded his fears into a perfect rose, she took it from him and put it in her hair.”

This book features a compelling story of the tragic fate of a family tampered by love laws that go like, “who should be loved and how much.” It talks about Indian history as based in 1969, cultural tensions, forbidden love, social outcasting and family feuds. Yes, that’s a lot to sink in while riding this emotional roller coaster. This one’s nowhere near to a commercial book that can keep you glued thereto, but it definitely is a modern gem that touches your heart.

3. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami –

Murakami is a Japanese author who has documented all over the world. Even if you have not read his books, you might have come across his name at times. I started this book for an equivalent reason, little did I know I would be absorbed in the magical realism offered in it. Murakami’s books are an ideal example of books that leave you baffled and let you escape from reality into a completely new world. They have their own logic which only the reader can comprehend, and that is what makes his writing likable.

A book which is a collection of perspectives and not just one. With its charged language, it doesn’t aim at teaching, but at making you think. This book is understood to be a guide to free you from all the “bullshit” as the author quotes. The author seamlessly covers subjects like your choices in love, the rejections you face, addressing failures, and most significantly your perspective towards life. 5. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini –

A runner-up book of Khaled Hosseini after “The Kite Runner”- breathtakingly depicting a warm motherly the relationship between the main characters, unfolded beautifully during the adversities in Afghanistan. It not only lets the readers take a closer look at the period when the Taliban takes over and life becomes a desperate struggle against brutality and fear, but also gives a taste of the oppression faced by women on losing out as they were forced to marry an abusive older man. The book mainly features Mariam, Laila, and their emerging friendship. Unlike in The Kite Runner, where the story is focused on the father and son’s relationship, this book mainly focuses on women. The author’s enthralling writing, and crisply designed plot, would surely keep you hooked to it till the end.

Written by a Russian author, this is a book with a lot of controversial subjects, thanks to its character build up. This book is about a middle-aged professor who is smitten by a 12-year-old girl and is sexually involved with her after becoming her stepfather. Well, this I believe is enough of a reason to start reading the book. Critics have diverse views on this book.
