Album Review: “Myze — Almost Impossible”

Listen, listen to what I’m about to say to you. This is the album of the summer that you may not have heard about yet. This is your soundtrack for the beach. This is your soundtrack for driving with the windows down. This is your soundtrack for your life, sounds intense, I know, but hear me out.
If you’re familiar with Myze, the Tennessee native that’s climbing his way up the ranks of Hip-Hop music with his refreshing, unique style, you probably know that this project is a follow up to “Please, Don’t Listen”. If nothing else, his former project proved that he was not to be ignored. The new release, “Almost Impossible”, proves that he has an abnormal rate of growth as an artist.
If you aren’t familiar with Myze, his new project is a perfect introduction to his sound and persona. Allow me to explain my assertions.
First of all, one of his greatest characteristics is that he’s somewhat of a one man band, he does it all. He produces, mixes, writes and performs all of his music. Not only is this combination rare among artists these days, but even those who attempt to do all at once, usually can’t do it as well as they could with help from others. Myze is an anomaly amongst these individuals, he does it all and does it well. I don’t need to argue that, just listen to his music.
All that said, let’s get to the review, shall we?
The project opens with “Rain in Paradise” a sonically tropical, introspective look at what’s going on in Myze’s mind and soul that sets the mood for the entire project early. As we move forward and hear his thoughts and observations, we hear his ability to utilize and conquered several different sounds. The same tropical, island feel we hear in “Rain in Paradise”, we also hear in “U Get”. “No Drama” edges closer to a trap feel, while still maintaining a sound that can’t fully be explained, but can easily be recognized. With a smooth transition that takes us from a fast paced assault of percussion to a transient, soulful exit, “One Look/Poison”, one of the leading singles from the album, is perhaps the most diverse track of the project.
Lyrically, Myze is an incredible writer. The thing about it is that he’s concise, he isn’t wordy, he gets straight to the heart of what he’s trying to say. If you’ve ever had a conversation with Myze, (we’ve had a few over Twitter in which he’s given me some great advice about my own music) you’ll find that in his life he’s the same way. He’s to the point because he realizes that it’s effective. This album doesn’t leave anything to question, his heart is laid out for the world to see, and it’s relatable.
He’s human, he’s imperfect, he struggles, but he’s honest.
If you haven’t got the point by now, you need to hear this album. I’m putting this in writing now: jump on board now. It won’t be long before everyone knows his name, and you can say you knew him before he blew up.
Congrats Myze, you’re doing something great for the world of Hip-Hop.
