We all have our idols, and in this time and age of the internet, we can follow them in a somehow too intrusive way. Some of us put ourselves out there way too much, and some of us try to look into the life of anyone that we admire. Sometimes, we’re on both sides.
It’s difficult to live in this online world without seeing more than we asked for. And most of all, we should learn to look at the life of our idols as a grain of salt; the truth is, we never see everything.
An example of this was the suicide of Anthony Bourdain. An idol for so many of us — the travel and food addicts — that looked at his life as something to achieve.
The truth is that although he had the life that so many of us aim for, it was not enough to help him fight his inner demons.
For me, Bourdain is still one of my main inspirations. I don’t travel for tourism; I do it to try to understand what’s out of my bubble. And what better way to do it than to try every different type of food.
Food is universal, and the reason for some regional dishes is usually some historical situation. And the best way to try food is not in the most touristy places; it’s going where the locals eat. It’s also a…
