His designs are now worth thousands of pounds, but back in the old days, young Dior started off by selling his fashion sketches outside his house for 10 cents each (~8 pence).

The sexy busts, the volume of the garments and the tiny waists defied everything that fashion meant until then, Dior’s goal being to bring back the carefree woman, the seductive woman.

Keen on giving women a certain playfulness and accentuate their bodies, Dior definitely knew how to play with volume and shapes.

I wanted my dresses to be “constructed”, moulded on the curves of the female body, whose contours I would stylise. I accentuated the waist, the volume of the hips, I emphasised the bust.
