The Light of Love

“It is to the credit of human nature, that, except where its selfishness is brought into play, it loves more readily than it hates. Hatred, by a gradual and quiet process, will even be transformed to love, unless the change be impeded by a continually new irritation of the original feeling of hostility.”

Nathaniel Hawthorne — The Scarlet Letter (1850)

In your entrepreneurial journey, there will always be a tremendous, raging conflict between your head and your heart.

Your head will say, why is this so hard, why don’t people understand, why must I go back and do this all over again today?

Ah, but your heart, when given the proper space, will readily answer — what must I learn today to move forward, who must I meet today in support of the cause, and how can I greet each day with a fresh point of view.

This conflict will carry on until you decide which one to listen obey.

The heart is seen romantically, philosophically and metaphysically as the place where the flame of love is sparked and kept burning. Sure, love is often portrayed in the metaphorical sense or the greeting card sense, but like love, the entrepreneurial flame is kept alive in our heartfelt passions — particularly in the times that seem darkest.

Your heart is your compass.

Passion, love for the day to day needs of your dream, requires incredible strength to hold and shape. Keeping the flame of love for your business alive will require you to step back and “by a gradual and quiet process” imprint what you love about your business firmly in your heart. Then, and only then, can you go about steadily getting very, very good at doing what you love.

Challenge Question: What do you love most about your entrepreneurial journey?
