Getting ready in her apartment for the first time was strange but fun. She could hear other girls shuffling about, calling on their ladies’ maids. Gerdie was doing her hair when Abbie burst into the door.
“Frannie! Are you almost ready? I can see girls from all the neighboring houses leaving for breakfast. Come on already!”
“It’s not like we can be late for breakfast. They don’t take attendance for that.”
“Is that so? We can miss out on the good food and seats at the best cafes. Can’t we?”
“Oh, Right. I guess we do have to hurry, Gerdie. Get a move on!”
