In this Museum of the Month, we will take you again to Coyoacán, Mexico City; to get to know one of the last works of Diego Rivera. In the beginning, he wanted to build a ranch alongside Frida Kahlo but instead decided on a cultural city.

One of his many great inspirations was Mexico’s past, as he was an avid collector of pre-Colombian pieces. He had almost 50 thousand!

This idea first started when he wanted to leave behind a cultural space where all of the arts could emerge. He wanted to display some of his collection to the public and as you can read once entering the building:

“I give back to the people, some of the artistic inheritance of their ancestors that I could rescue”. — Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera wanted to combine the prehispanic and the modern; with this museum, he was able to achieve it. There were many people in charge of this construction but the main one was Juan O’Gorman.
