Spring is on the way and the Shepherd Area Historical Society will be working on several Projects this Summer and throughout the year.

First we will be working on grants and fundraisers for the various projects. We hope that we can get support through donations for these projects from the public and area residents. The Shepherd Area Historical Society meetings are held the second Monday of each month at The Power House Museum at 7:00 PM and the public is welcome.

The Projects are:

  1. Preserve the Argus
  2. Class Pictures
  3. Little Red Schoolhouse
  4. Power House Museum

Preservation of Shepherd Argus Archives

We are also working on preserving the remaining Shepherd Argus newspapers that have been donated to the Society from many Shepherd area residents over the years. We are teaming up with CMU’s Clarke Historical Library to preserve the history by microfilming and digitizing the surviving Shepherd Argus newspapers.

We would like to thank Kent Roth of the Shepherd Bar and Restaurant for holding a fundraiser on March 10th, 2016 for the preservation of the Shepherd Argus fund it was greatly appreciated.

The Historical Society is also accepting Shepherd Argus newspapers and SHS Yearbooks and class pictures. They may be dropped off at the Shepherd Community Library, 257 West Wright Avenue, Shepherd, MI 48883, or by contacting Larry or Joyce Noyes at 989–828–5319 to arrange for pickup.

Remodeling of the Historic and Little Red Schoolhouse Museums

At this time we are working on renovating the Little Red Schoolhouse and the Power House Museums as both museums are badly in need of repairs. The society is also working on framing the many graduating class pictures now stored at the Little Red Schoolhouse.

Donations can be mailed to the Shepherd Area Historical Society to Preserve the Shepherd Argus Fund or any of the other projects at P. O. Box 505, Shepherd, Michigan 48883.
Just make you check out to the Shepherd Area Historical Society and enter the project that you would like to donate to in the remarks space so we can direct your donation to the proper fund.

The Shepherd Area Historical Society is classified as a 501(c)(3)&509(a) organization and all donations are tax deductible.
