In this short story, a town realized that hope can sometimes look like cherries.

No one could hide it; the situation was terrifying. The small town of Millfield was under attack by a swarm of vicious creatures. They were like nothing anyone had ever seen before — with sharp claws and teeth, and eyes that glowed with an otherworldly intensity. The townspeople had no idea where they had come from or what they wanted, but they knew one thing for certain — they were in actual danger.

The inhabitants of the city were confused; why were these violent creatures attacking them? Some of the strangest rumors said that these monsters had begun to attack the city as punishment for the violence and debauchery of its inhabitants.

Rivers of blood stained the streets of Millfield. Nobody knew where to hide, because these creatures seemed to multiply every second. Not even the children were spared from being attacked by such grotesque beings.
However, when everyone was about to throw themselves into a sea of despair, a light appeared in the most unexpected place.

Cherilene, a young woman everyone called “Cherry”, who had been hired to work at the town hospital as a nurse, was in charge of igniting the flame of hope.
Step by step and drop by drop, the red-haired nurse was in charge of encouraging those who wanted to face the creatures and healing those who had come out in the fray against them. It was not easy to keep morale high in such difficult moments, in which the darkness seemed to want to devour everything.

With weapons made from homemade tools, the enraged citizens faced off against the hideous monsters. Cherry didn’t hesitate, and riding her red motorcycle, she charged at the largest creature. The young woman was so injured that the other citizens left her for dead. A couple of days later, waking up in a bed at the hospital where she was going to work, she smiled through her pain, realizing that the people of Millfield had won the battle. Perhaps tomorrow the darkness would try to attack again. Perhaps a new threat would soon hang over the small town. But for today, everyone could breathe in peace.
