I rose up before the sun did.

Everything was quiet and still.

I breathed in the night air — fresh and nippy — and marveled at the late-night sky swathed in blue, violet, and black and sprinkled by faintly twinkling stars.

How beautiful! How peaceful!

I thought of the people in Ukraine and Russia, now gripped in a senseless war.

Scared. Hungry. Beleaguered. Confused. Angry. Torn. Defiant.

The night sky faded, the stars are gone!

But I know. The sky will soon explode in brightness and warmth. A new day is coming!

So, I bow my head in prayer, for peace and safety for all in Russia and Ukraine.
