A Place Can Help Us Heal
Whether We Go There Physically Or in Our Mind and Heart
“Places I love come back to me like music,
Hush me and heal me when I am very tired…”— Sara Teasdale, The Collected Poems
Envisioning or being in a meaningful place nurtures healing.
Maybe a place akin to home. Or maybe one that’s mythical, diverging from reality. Power lies in the nuances making it special to us.
For me, it’s prairie, walks, in a row boat on the lake up north, gazing at stars and night-flying planes from the upper balcony. And places I’ve been with people I love the most.
“…the city she loves me,” among the lyrics in the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song, “Under the Bridge,” expresses how we can feel reciprocated in our love of a place.
In my life, I have leaned greatly on the beauty, strength, and reassurance of place. To feel “grounded,” inspired, and connected. And able to go on.
