“I know it’s rude to ask,” the nosy waitress began. “But really, how old are you?”

I bit my tongue and chuckled. “Oh, I don’t think you’d believe me if I told you.”

“Oh, come on. You’ve been coming here every Sunday for as long as I’ve been working here. And you don’t look like you’ve aged a day.”

She leaned in and whispered. “Let me in on your secret, hun. What’s your skincare routine?”

I thought about telling her the truth. I wondered whether she’d scream or faint right in front of me.

“Sunscreen,” I lied. “Lots of sunscreen.”
